Malala Yousafzai is a young woman from Pakistan who was shot in the head by the
Taliban when she was fifteen years old. The Taliban shot Malala as a response to her receiving an education and advocating for an equal education for everyone. Malala’s courage to stand up for her beliefs and make her voice known has resulted in a widespread awareness of the lack of education in most countries. To help eliminate this issue, Malala has created an organization known as the Malala Fund, which helps provide an education for children and women in third-world countries. Despite her belief in Islam, Malala Yousafzai exemplifies a life of Christian service through her activism by standing up for women’s education. Malala’s story inspires millions of people, and sparks hope in the lives of many oppressed women.

In third-world countries, education is not placed as a priority, and many women are forced to stay in the home or are subjected to early marriage. Malala created the Malala Fund, an organization that provides education for women who are too poor to afford it or live in places that do not place any emphasis on it, in order to address this worldwide problem. Malala’s passion for this issue derives from her experience with women being deprived of an education in her homeland, Pakistan. Women in Pakistan are not allowed to receive any formal education because of the Muslim religion and belief system. A Muslim extremist group, known as the Taliban, has placed fear in the hearts of women in Pakistan who desire a formal education. Similarly, more than fifty percent of female adolescents in Afghanistan are not enlisted in school and have not received an education (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization).
