Machiavelli gave good advice for Renaissance rulers and for leaders today. Furthermore, it is important for a leader/ ruler to be able to get involved with the people that they rule. If they become involved the ruler will be seen as respected and even trustworthy. It is important to gain the trust of the people that you are in charge in, they expect you to make the right decision. It is necessary for a leader to put aside irrelevant matters and focus on the bigger situations, they should focus on the bigger picture that could eventually affect their peoples life. A good leader knows when he has done wrong and made a mistake, a great leaders knows that they did wrong and they also fix the problem to insure that it will not happen again. The advice about keeping your hand off of a man's property/ patrimony applies to past rulers. Today the bank will just foreclose on a house or land someone owns if they do not pay their bills. Nevertheless, a leader should always stand by his people's side and make sure that none are left behind. An example would be the fox and the lion; you do not just choose one, but you should choose both. Fox’s protect each other and rely on each other; lions depend on each other because they cannot face another group of animals about to attack them on their own. A great leader does not have to have perfect qualities, but they should always act as if they do. Without certain qualities they will not be able to stay calm through out situations, and their main duty is to protect the people. With that being said, Machiavelli left great and lasting advice for past rulers and current leaders, he left a platform for what all rulers and leaders should think about while trying to protect and always do what's best for their
