Roar-Katy Perry You held me down, but I got up Already brushing off the dust You hear my voice, your hear that sound Like thunder, gonna shake the ground You held me down, but I got up Get ready cause I’ve had enough I see it all, I see it now I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter, dancing through the fire Cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me roar Louder, louder than a lion Cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me roar I chose Roar, by Katy Perry because it explained the pressure on her. In this song, Katy Perry is let down and pushed back. She stays quiet and doesn’t fight for what she deserves Similarly, Vera is also a very frightened and scared girl once the murders start Occurring. She was challenged …show more content…
But with the beast inside, there’s nowhere we can hide… Don’t get too close, it’s dark inside. It’s where my demons hide, it’s where my demons hide.” This connects to all the characters because the song is saying that they don’t want to tell the truth. They want to hide the truth and, don’t get to close because that is where my demons hide. This song is referring demons to the bad things its trying to conceal and not reveal. Such as Dr. Armstrong hiding the fact that he accidentally killed someone during a surgery. Or like, Vera Claythorne had also accidentally drown a child while she wasn’t paying attention. Another example would be the guilt of Emily Brent and the killing of Beatrice Taylor. The Approaching Curve-Rise Against As we were, so perfect, so happy Don't remember, only your smiles because that's all they've seen Long since dried, when we are found, are the tears in which we had drowned As we were, so perfect, so happy Our cracking voices became part of the music The car pressed on faster through he night As our voices lowered The cadence again overtook the air Up ahead there was a curve approaching She made no indications of …show more content…
The threat of life becoming extinct was real. This mostly is talking about 99 balloons or also known as 99 nuclear bombs. This relates to General Macarthur because when he was leading his division he sent one of his lieutenants and then was accused for killing him because Arthur Richmond was his wife's lover. He wanted to survive during war but had done many bad things. Sound of da police-KRS,One Woop-woop! That's the sound of da police! That's the sound of the beast! Stand clear! Don man a-talk You can't stand where I stand, you can't walk where I walk Watch out! We run New York Police man come, we bust him out the park I know this for a fact, you don't like how I act You claim I'm sellin' crack But you be doin' that I'd rather say "see
“I’ve been walking heartache\I’ve made a mess of me (line 1\2)” This reminds me of Dally’s personality. “Dally raised the gun and I thought: You blasted fool.” These both go hand and hand with each other. Another spot of the song that goes with the book is when the song says, “Cause God gave me you for the ups and downs” (line 8) This reminds me of Darry and Ponyboy’s relationship. In the book The Outsiders Darry hits Ponyboy, but when Ponyboy is sick he asked for
The first girl mentioned is Lisa, she feels alone in the world, her mother is a drug addict and likes to bring many men home. The song talks about things in the beginning work out well, but later on in the night, the mom and the man end up fighting. The men beat Lisa and when Lisa tries to tell her mom, her mom does not believe her. Lisa’s story can specifically relate to marriage and family because she does grow up in a functional family. The mother is a drug addict and does not take care of her daughter, it is mentioned that there is no father because the mother brings home men every night. The fact that Lisa does not have a stable family and no one to look up to is affecting her life negatively. The men that her mother does bring home, abuse Lisa and mistreat her. Lisa is a nine year old girl, she is too young to be experiencing the things she does. There is probably no main income for her family either, and if her mom does get paid, she will probably use that money towards buying more drugs. This can relate to the poverty aspect because people who grow up in poverty cannot even afford to survive on minimum wage alone. Also the fact that Lisa’s mom is a single mother means that she is e...
I have chosen to do two songs waiting on a woman by Brad Presley witch the whole song makes a gender stereotype about woman always making a man wait. The second song I choose to do is George Straits A fathers Love which enforces it’s hard to be a father and what a good strong dad role model is. Both songs spoke to me in different ways.
This song talks a lot about the baggage of the past that people hold onto instead of letting it go. All that baggage is only going to end up hurting you more and more instead of helping you in any way possible. An example is the opening
As the chapter continues, Cose describes that there are a dozen demons that blacks will in sometime come across. A few, inability to fit in, low expectations, and identity troubles are the ones that I found myself asking "Why?"
The song “Demons” by Imagine Dragons is about a person who hides his issues deep within him so that no one finds out he has troubles. When the narrator faces the problems alone, he wants to have someone to help him, but then realizes that he does not want to worry them. This song uses metaphors to convey that the song is about how hard it is to keep a secret from others.
I believe that this does a fantastic job when it comes to showing the metaphorical meaning behind these lyrics. In conclusion, I believe that the way that I interpreted the lyrics to: “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” shows the deeper meaning on how I see it. Just because I see it one way does not mean that other people cannot see it a different way. That is the great thing about analyzing songs is that the person analyzing it can express freedom and their opinions on the
Under President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s administration the atomic bomb was being developed. After Roosevelt died, his vice president Harry Truman was appointed President of the United States. Truman was never informed about the bombs development until an emergency cabinet meeting (Kuznick 9). Truman had to make the fatal decision on whether the bomb was to be dropped on Japan. With the idea of going to war, Truman had to think about the lives of the thousand American soldiers. The American soldiers had begun using the method of island hopping, because the bomb was not available. The idea of dropping a bomb was that the war itself could possibly end in its earliest points. The dropping of the atomic bomb could also justify the money spent on the Manhattan Project (Donohue 1). With a quote by Franklin D. Roosevelt “This will be a day that will live in infamy”, Pearl Harbor was a tragic day for Americans. The United States had lost many soldiers, which they had claimed that they will eventually get revenge. The alternates of dropping the bomb was also discussed at the Interim Committee. The American government was trying to get an invitation response from the Japanese government. If the United States did not drop the bomb and ‘Operation Downfall’ ha...
The song I chose is Runaway Love by Ludacris featuring Mary J. Blige. The song was released in 2007 on Ludacris’s fifth album Release Therapy. The style or genre is rhythm and blues and rap. The song is very soulful and emotional. Ludacris is the main voice in the song and raps all of the verses telling a story, however Mary J. Blige is the emotion behind the lyrics and she sings the chorus. The mood of the song is sad and emotional. There is a rhythm though if beats that draws the listener in. The beat is made by a clapping noise and makes the listener want to clap along to the beat. The songs tempo is not too fast or too slow. It's slow enough to be soulful but it's still fast enough to rap to and has a beat. The instruments in this song are the guitar, base, and keyboard, along with background vocals.
This song has parallel stucture as it repeats "angles" over again and again as well as a few metaphors but it 's best job was creating a visiual image of the song. Their defenity were similes that made the song stand out compared to other songs Ed Sheeran has made. The stongest simile in the versce " crumbling like pasteries" " Pale lips, white face" this describes her face after using drugs for so long the simile helps us to visualise what this woman looks like and makes us feel repulsed by her appearance. The parallel structure “white lips, pale face” gives added effect to the song. Because of the different language features it gives the text a lot more feeling and keeps the audience interested. It talks about how men are cruel to angels/women like
“Fight Song” by Rachel Platten addresses the topic of determination. Throughout the song she talks about rough times and the voices in her head but how she is never going to give up on life and her determination to make it better and to keep fighting. “Fight song” carries a theme of determination for everyone. With the lines “ This is my fight song”(Platten 11) The theme is first introduced because she is talking about how she is fighting from the beginning. By saying “Like a small boat in the ocean”(Platten 1) she reveals a simile, she is showing that even if it is a small boat it doesn’t mean that it can’t take on the ocean. The theme is developed more when she says “Prove I’m alright song” this fits the theme because she is determined
Robert Currie’s “The Diver”, on the surface, recounts a diver’s descent and ascent into a river as onlookers eagerly anticipate his fate. Beneath the surface, this poem is actually very spiritual. The diver’s descent into the water, and his arising from the water, can be compared to the crucifixion of Jesus. Through the masterful use of imagery and Biblical comparisons, Currie depicts the message that rebirth and hope can captivate and revitalize our spirits.
Anthem is a song of celebration or praise, as well as a being held scared. My anthem would be, “Waka Waka,” by Shakira because it is a great anthem for people who don’t give up and keep going with any challenges life brings it’s way with confidence. “Walks Waka” express the way of how people feel when they are not giving up and how to push themselves to do great things. Both, not giving up and confidence, are important to me.
Toni Morrison’s novel Beloved swims like a garden pond full of minnows with thoughts and memories of days gone by. Each memory is like a drop of water, and when one person brings up enough drops, a trickle of a stream is formed. The trickles make their way down the shallow slopes and inclines, pushing leaves, twigs, and other barriers out of the way, leaving small bits of themselves behind so their paths can be traced again. There is a point, a vertex, a lair, where many peoples streams unite in a valley, in the heart of a pebble lined brook, and it is here that their trickles of days gone by fuse with each other, and float hand in hand until they ultimately settle to form the backyard pond.
..., but no trace of tears. I suppose, then, your heart has been weeping blood?’” (344).
