Growing up, you always hear bad things about the autoimmune disease known as lupus on tv and how other people talk about the disease. It puts thoughts into your head about that it is a bad disease and that people who have it are contagious and are dangerous to be around; however, people with the autoimmune disease known as lupus is not contagious and some patients diagnosed with the disease are not dangerous. Lupus is an autoimmune disease that is chronic and can damage parts of your body anywhere. What is lupus, you ask? It is a disease causes something to go wrong with the immune system and makes it to where the immune system can't tell which antibodies are good and bad. Lupus is sometimes compared to lupus to cancer because some doctors use chemotherapy to medicate someone with the disease; but, it is not related to cancer in anyway shape or form. …show more content…

Those who are not around the disease, or are not educated about it, compare it to cancer and HIV, or even AIDS. Those who have AIDS or HIV have an underactive immune system, patients diagnosed with lupus are the total opposite because their immune system is overactive. The immune system, for those diagnosed, doesn't know the difference between what doctors call "foreign invaders" and the healthy body tissue, so it causes the immune system to make antibodies that fight off the foreign invaders and the healthy tissue. Those with AIDS and HIV have underactive immune systems, meaning that they don 't fight off anything; which causes both lupus and HIV get sick because they have no healthy immune
