Questions fly, whether to put first loyalty with the government or put first loyalty with one’s spouse. Which is better? Loyalty comes down to which is better for the society, whether having first loyalty with the government or first loyalty with spouse. The government protects the society, by creating a happy society, which can keep people out of jail. For the betterment of society, a citizen’s first loyalty should be with the government. Fahrenheit 451 follows a controlling policy. The policy is, the citizens are controlled what to read or what not read. If this policy is broken, the firefighters’ responsibility is to remove the books that are not approved from the government, then burn them. In the book a firefighter named, Montag meets a little girl who changes his whole perspective about books. He later than steals books from the fires that were meant to be burned. The government makes these laws to form a happy society, so if people go against the government it would create a chaotic society.

Although the government makes certain laws. Laws are created for the betterment of society. That is why in Fahrenheit 451, “the government allowed textbooks in the school, allowed people to read newspapers”(Bradbury), which was their way of forming a happy society. The government protects the society by punishing the people that do not agree with the policy, that way those people will not break the society. Lastly, creating peace within the society, makes the citizens happy with what the government is giving the society.
