When she came from the funeral and saw the shirt, she stared to cry. She was crying as she had been unable to cry before. Then her children gathered around her and started to calm her down. They were the only reason to go on. She had small four children. Her husband had had a heart condition that could be controlled with medication, but something went wrong. The fourth Chapter of Estella Blackburn’s non fiction novel Broken lives “A Fathers Influence”, exposes readers to Eric Edgar Cooke and John Button’s time of adolescence. The chapter juxtaposes the two main characters too provide the reader with character analyses so later they may make judgment on the verdict. The chapter includes accounts of the crimes and punishments that Cooke contended with from 1948 to 1958. Cooke’s psychiatric assessment that he received during one of his first convictions and his life after conviction, marring Sally Lavin. It also exposes John Button’s crime of truancy, and his move from the UK to Australia.
Religion and nature are both thought to bring beauty to life. Religion gives some a purpose to live while for others, nature provides a natural escape from the problems of modern day life. However, author Flannery O’ Connor uses both of these elements in her short story, The Life You Save May Be Your Own, for a different purpose. Religion and nature provide the reader with insight into the main character, Tom Shiflet, a troubled drifter with one arm who comes into the lives of the Crater women and leaves them abruptly. Shiflet’s moral corruption is represented in the story’s weather change and the numerous Christian symbols that surround the various characters.
Cold sweat trickles down Kate's back as she stands over the hospital bed, watching the mother she cares for slowly pass away. The droning beep of the monitoring heart machine pierces through the air. Kate kisses her mother one last time, wiping warm tears from her watery eyes, and sluggishly begins to leave. Step by step out of the door the pain intensifies in her heart, but Kate must keep staying strong and move on. A new chapter of her life begins here. Much like Kate, Anna Quindlen undergoes with the catastrophic death of her mother dying of cancer, leaving her arriving at college with an entire new perspective. Her significant childhood and maturement, experiencing the death of her mother, and giving birth to three children influenced Anna Quindlen with her writings.
Love has many definitions and can be interpreted in many different ways. William Maxwell demonstrates this in his story “Love”. Maxwell opens up his story with a positive outlook on “Love” by saying, “Miss Vera Brown, she wrote on the blackboard, letter by letter in flawlessly oval palmer method. Our teacher for fifth grade. The name might as well have been graven in stone” (1). By the end of the story, the students “love” for their teachers no longer has a positive meaning, because of a turn in events that leads to a tragic ending. One could claim that throughout the story, Maxwell uses short descriptive sentences with added details that foreshadow the tragic ending.
I looked around at everyone in the room and saw the sorrow in their eyes. My eyes first fell on my grandmother, usually the beacon of strength in our family. My grandmother looked as if she had been crying for a very long period of time. Her face looked more wrinkled than before underneath the wild, white hair atop her head. The face of this once youthful person now looked like a grape that had been dried in the sun to become a raisin. Her hair looked like it had not been brushed since the previous day as if created from high wispy clouds on a bright sunny day.

The daughter hasn’t seen where the father lived and they don’t seem as if they are very comfortable in the presence of each other. They don’t have a relationship people strive for. However, we saw the father take responsibility for his family. They we young and he stayed with them. He knew it was his job and he didn’t leave them alone. In the end you could tell it didn’t last. The last line shows that the cold or problems got in. The mom wasn’t in present day story. Telling you something went wrong. It wasn’t truly a happy ending. People use moment to live and we strive to do our best, but problems occur. How can you make your life worth the troubles? Be prepared and make compromises. Life isn’t perfect and you have to prepare or your life will be filled with no one.

For example, when you truly love someone in your family, you make sure that you show them you truly love them by not only giving them a hug but also telling them that you love them. I can relate to this situation because whenever I notice that my mom is feeling down, I make sure that I tell her that I love her and she is the best mom in the world. Another theme that is present in this poem that I can relate with my life is the theme of mortality. For example, the man is obsessed with not only how but also why Annabel died. I can relate to the man in this situation because after my mom’s dog passed away about nine or ten years ago I was wondering for the longest time why she had to pass away. She wasn’t always the nicest dog, but I still loved her anyways. This poem celebrates the child-like emotions with the ideals of the Romantic era.

The novel, Alone Together: Why We Expect More From Technology and Less From Each Other (2011) written by Sherry Turkle, presents many controversial views, and demonstrating numerous examples of how technology is replacing complex pieces and relationships in our life. The book is slightly divided into two parts with the first focused on social robots and their relationships with people. The second half is much different, focusing on the online world and it’s presence in society. Overall, Turkle makes many personally agreeable and disagreeable points in the book that bring it together as a whole.
The main event is the death of the child, which has happened previously to the beginning of the poem. This event foreshadows the death of the marriage which will happen after the poem. The husband and wife go through the grief process in many different ways. The wife believes that her husband does not understand her or the grief in which she feels. Like Life by Lorrie Moore thematically presents stories revolving around romance and how heartache and how irony can arise in a relationship. Two stories within her book present characters that are unable to cope with the "real world" and end up being lonely. “Vissi d’Arte” and “Starving Again” focuses more with male protagonists who both fail at creating a long lasting relationship and affection for something by being narrow minded and blind by their actions.
Struggling with grief and loss can lead to a number of serious physical and emotional ailments. In the article “Death from a Broken Heart,” Dulce Zamora wrote about experiencing the strain of stress, emotional overload, and poor self-care after a death. The article highlighted the fact that grievers are at higher risk for health problems. Studies have shown, as the article discussed, that surviving spouses may also have increased odds of suffering from heart disease and emotional problems.
When the March family seemed to be at one of the lowest times they stuck together the most. Surprisingly, what a lot of people do not know is that Mrs. Mya Angelou was born with the name Marguerite Ann Johnson. Mrs. Mya Angelou is an American author who has published seven autobiographies, three books of essays, and several books of poetry. Mrs. Mya Angelou is also credited with a list of plays, movies, and television shows spanning more than fifty years of phenomenal works of literature ( Mya Angelou).
