Have you ever had some of your innocence taken away by something harsh or unfair, well that's exactly what happened to Stanley Yelnats in the book Holes by Louis Sachar. He got a very harsh punishment for something he didn't even do. He was sent to a camp for bad boys called camp Green Lake where he lost most of his innocence but also learned to be more ambitious and even showed some responsibility. All of these statements point out that the theme of holes is growing up. And there is even more because he learn a lot from his mistakes and it's a camp for bad boys not men so there is a lot of youth. There at camp green lake Stanley took on a lot of responsibility like when he took the blame for stealing a bag of sunflower seeds that another boy stole (“so tell me Caveman how did my sack of sunflower seed end up in your hole”. “I ate them”.) (Sachar,#86).
