The facepaint resembles power and leadership, for example, when “well, we won’t be painted because we aren’t savages(172).” this example of face paint is important because it shows that Ralph doesn’t want his group to be seen as one with Jack, especially when Ralph’s idea of what a leader should be isn’t at all what Jack sees it as. Furthermore, the facepaint shows that some of society follows a group of people like mob mentality because others are doing it but also because one’s power as a leader has selfish and obscured objectives.
