While the two mediums used to tell the story of Lost’s two pilot episodes and Lord of the Flies by William Golding are different, there are lots of similarities that can be drawn from the two stories. In Lord of the Flies, Ralph quickly takes place as the group’s leader, as well as Jack in Lost. In Lost, Jack is set as leader because of his doctorly instincts taking and showing everyone his intelligence. This concept is also found in Lord of the Flies when Ralph shepherds the children when he sounds the conch shell. Similarly, both stories have a relatively large and cruelly named side kick. In Lord of the Flies, Ralph adopts “Piggy” as his friend. In Lost, Jack adopts “Hugo” as his friend. Both characters had a real name in the beginning, but characters in both stories renamed them due to their size. In addition, both storylines have an opposing, violent character. In Lost, James, a former prisoner, shows the characters his violence when he shoots the polar bear. He then shows his disobedience and violence there after. In Lord of the Flies, Jack is very eager to kill pigs, and doesn’t agree with Ralph’s decision to delay the hunt to focus on shelter. Overall, both stories have very similar character dynamics.

To conclude, Lost and Lord of the Flies both have a very similar setting, and character relationships. Both stories have the backbone and starting point of characters abandoned on an island.
