How can school days benefit kids? Some beliefs on why school days should be longer is for a variety of reasons, kids struggling and kids being able to ask question. I also think school days should be longer because you can get more things done over the course of the school day. This could be helpful because it would only add like a couple minutes to each class. Kids could get their homework done also and could get more help. The second reason is that in an hour short school day we don't get enough time to ask questions. With longer school days we could add ten minutes a day just to ask questions if kids are confused or don't understand how to do something. We could also not cram in everything and get kids confused and it could help them

For centuries young American children have attended school during the winter months, during farming off seasons when their families could afford to be without them. Families have grown accustomed to a traditional school calendar that provides time for bonding throughout the year. Students have grown accustomed to an eight week break during the summer months where they are allowed to refresh their minds before returning for a new school year. Unfortunately, these traditional experiences and practices are now in jeopardy. In today’s race to improve student achievement, traditional school calendars have become a point of contention. Today more and more school districts and parents alike have begun to debate the pros and cons of an alternative school calendar.
Imagine students becoming stressed with the abundant amount of homework they have to accomplish, complaining about the lack of time and fun enjoyable tasks they have to leave out. Currently, District 211 has a five day school week but having a four day school week eradicates these problems, which could have a positive mental and physical effect. Extending the time of the day for school will definitely improve students and teachers in many different ways. There should be extra time added to school hours because it would really help students develop more information, Help students that are failing, and also it would have a great effect on teachers that are not able to teach a lesson in class in the usual time given. First and foremost, Students that are already highly educated can really open up to a whole different level of knowledge with more time in school. Adding time would be a great idea for students that have a hard time learning or students that need to know more. For example, in the usual time that we have in school which is approximately 5 to 6 hours a day.

Almost all students already have stress because of school, imagine what would happen if the school board extended school hours by an hour and a half. School is already stressful because of everything we already do. Yes, adding a hour to school can help many students perform better but I disagree adding an hour and a half to school because students will perform worse, students wouldn’t have enough time to do things after school and many students will not come to school. The traditional School schedule is set up so students go to school for 9 months and then have a 3-month summer Vacation. This system dates back to a time when most people's lively hood was farming; therefore, the educational schedule was built around the times of harvest and planting. But in modern day, with so little farmers this schedule is severely out dated. The long break in the summer encourages students to forget knowledge that they learned that previous year, forcing teachers to review information for 4-6 weeks, time that could be well used teaching students new and enriching things. This schedule also isn't very cost effective, for three months schools stand empty and unused, which is ridicules due to how over crowded the educational system is. Does it really make sense to use an outdated schedule when with every other aspect of our lives we want the newest and the best?
School should be four days a week with an extra hour added to each school day because it would save money for the school system, increase student motivation, stimulate the economy, and promote student achievement. There has been a decrease in education due to the small amount of resources, causing classrooms to be bigger and children not being able to extend their knowledge. Even though the economy has been falling, each school district has been working hard to promote student education, which could mean trading a traditional school schedule for a four-day school week. I disagree with the idea of extended school hours, I have came up with three reasons why we shouldn't have extended school hours. They are because we would be tired most of the day, it would take away time from us, and it would leave out extra curricular activities. I don’t think it is fair for students, that teachers add hours to school. There is no point to do that because we already get everything doe during school, we would just be wasting our precious time there. Extended school hours would make us tired.

That one day can relieve the stress of a busy week and make a student feel refreshed. A refreshed student will learn better than a stressed-out student. The same goes for a teacher. I strongly disagree with Dickenson county school board’s plan to extend the school hour by one and a half hours in the day. The reasons I disagree are the students and staff have too much weight on our shoulders, also some students have to wake up at five o'clock in the morning and then they get on the bus at five thirty, and the school time is too long as it is. If the horrible idea of extending the school hours by one hour and a half is passed the children will be more exhausted after the day. There would be students that would get home after dark and go to school before daylight. Furthermore if they had to get on the bus before dawn they would be getting up a whole lot earlier.
