There are approximately 2.9 million child abuse cases a year. Over 45% of these children are under the age of 5. Child abuse can have many negative effects on a victim. It may have long term effects on the people involved. They may have substance abuse problems and suffer from addiction. They may also suffer from Self destructive tendencies and Health issues.
Many children that have been abused have self destructive tendencies. These teens have a higher chance of committing a crime. 59% of abused teens are more likely to be arrested. Self-harm is a major effect of abuse. This can include cutting, burning, pulling hair, and pinching. Many teenagers who are abused end up running away. In a study of homeless youth 46% left because of physical abuse and 17% left because of sexual abuse. Teens who run away or experience abuse have a 25% more chance of experiencing teen pregnancy.
There are long term effects of abuse. There are the obvious physical effects. They can experience: Arthritis, Asthma, bronchitis, high blood pressure, and ulcers. On top of those effects children/ …show more content…

Many of the people checked into rehab or some rehabilitation program has experienced some type of abuse. Drinking and drug abuse can turn victims children into victims as well. Substance abuse means the user is not in the right state of mind. They are not able to care for their children. They do things induced by the drugs and/or alcohol. Nearly 1/3 of abused grow up and abuse there own children.
Many children each year suffer from Child abuse and neglect. These can lead to long term effects that not only damage the child but society as well. They can be self destructive and hurt themselves they can also hurt others. The real question is who are you? The abuser? The witness? Or the victim? What will you do to prevent it? They are the ones who suffer
