Latin America has always been considered a land of festive feelings, flavorful food and people, and almost everyone has heard “ Bailando” by Enrique Iglesias, the King of Latin Pop. The truly modern Latino culture that we know today began to evolve in the late 80’s and early 90’s, with artists like Emmanuel and Luis Miguel. They took the scene by storm with songs like “Pobre Diablo” (1990, Emmanuel) and “Ahora Te Puedes Marchar” (1987, Luis Miguel). These catchy tunes were often listened to by young men and women on records, CDs, and the radio in Latin-American countries like Mexico. In “Vivir Mi Vida” composed by Mark Anthony in 2013, he sings about having a fun life when he sings in the chorus: “Voy a reír, voy a bailar/ Vivir mi vida la la la la/ Voy a reír, voy a gozar/ Vivir mi vida la la la la...” This means: “I will laugh, I will dance/ Live my life la la la la/ I will laugh, I will enjoy it / Live my life la la la la.” This song shows the criterion of having a fun life because the speaker sings about laughing, dancing, and enjoying his life. The speaker tells his audience that he “…. Enjoy it” he is speaking about enjoying his life, this shows that life is short and we need to appreciate it. In “El Rey Azul” written by Emmanuel in 2011, the singer sings about love when he says: “No importa / Sí tú / Me miras yo me convierto / En un rey azul / Me hice una promesa / Hace unos días / Para tocar tú mano / Y no me atrevo todavía.” This means: “It does not matter / if you / gaze at me I turn into / a Blue King / I made myself a promise / some days ago / to hold your hand / but I am not brave enough yet.” This song shows the criterion of having a message about love because when Emmanuel sings “It does not matter / if you / gaze at me I turn into / a Blue King” …show more content…

This genre was spawned from the feelings and passions that is so commonly found in Latin America. Songs and music with danceable beats can date back to the Mexican Revolutionary War against the Spaniards and their monarchy, mariachi music and traditional folkloric dancing music, and other types of music really gave modern Latin music its base. The public now, more than ever, needs to be reminded of all life has to offer, to be reminded that love and dancing is a great escape to free your mind, that, is what this genre does. This genre is vital to everyday lives because now, people are always rushing, stuck in an eternal race against the ticking clock that signifies our lives.
