In my Literature Synthesis I will be talking about the discrimination of transgender individuals. because of our gender binary society this limits opportunities for those who want to truly express who they are. I have chosen this topic since it is becoming more prevalent in our society today. I have some familiarity with the topic from knowing individuals who are in transition and I hope to gain a better understanding. One of the main reasons this remains an issue today is because the lack of knowledge we have on such topics. For transgender individuals, it is difficult to fit into the categories of gender that society has put in place that is so binary. Societal institutions such as our schools, religion, government, and families maintain and normalize the gender binary. Gender binary of only being either: feminine or masculine. Based on the gender assigned by birth, parents will assume the gender of their child and have gender expectations.
