Uncertainty, discomfort, insecurity, and the need to feel accepted are characteristics that most of society have experienced. Primarily most adolescents in high school have the tendency to feel this way, but it is essential to their personal growth.In Perks of being a wallflower by Stephen Chbosky, Charlie the main character lives a difficult childhood but learns to overcome these troubles. Charlie’s experiences in his freshman year of High School were both positive and negative, and consisted of him living through the year learning, and having difficulties due to his coming of age. Charlie, Sam, and Patrick’s friendship has been something that mostly changed charlie’s life for the better.Charlie 's friendship with his friends made his life complete and allowed him to experience moments that he thought he may never. One of Charlie’s best moments ever was knowing his friendship would last forever: “Sam sat down and started laughing. Patrick started laughing. I started laughing. And in that moment, I swear we were infinite. “ (1.10.118)To be infinite is an extreme power to feel within a group of close friends. Charlie was lucky enough to feel this and it was very important to him to finally have made close friends whom he could share such moments with. Great moments with his friends are something that Charlie really loves and would never want to ruin so he does all he can to prevent it. Charlie has a fear of losing his friends which explains the way he acts around them which is very quiet. Charlie would rarely stick up for himself and do things mainly for others rather than himself: “antisocial behavior, and emotional distress were examined as processes that might explain these significant links between peer relationships: (Kathryn R. Wentzel). Charlie has now found happiness within his friendships which he tries his best to maintain. He does not want to begin to be antisocial again and quiet due to his past depression.
