In which ways did Kidd Strikingly portray the relationship between Lily and Rosaleen throughout the novel. In the novel of “The Secret Life of Bees” by Sue Monk Kidd, strikingly portrays the relationship between Lily and Rosaleen throughout the novel. For instance, ever since Lily was a kid, Rosaleen has always been there with for her. Therefore, Lily sees her as a mother figure as well as the fact that she grew up living by her side and the care she gave her. Anyways, a brief explanation of Lily’s situation is that her mother Deborah, died when Lily was only three years of age by an accidental shot. After a few hours or less, they show unmistakable signs of queenlessness (pg.7).” This quote is a metaphor which compares the loss of the queen bee to the loss of Lily’s mother, Deborah and how T-Ray and Lily grew apart and how their behavior changed drastically. Therefore, all the parental love she has is from Rosaleen, her maid. For instance, Rosaleen has been there for Lily throughout those years and has supported her every step of the way. She has also celebrated her birthday and accomplished everything she can in order to make Lily happy. In addition, Rosaleen has yet argued with T-Ray to help out Lily and to defend her of her own father. However, Rosaleen is African American which makes it far more difficult for Lily and her to be together in public by the eyes of others due to the fact that this time of event occurred in the early nineteen hundreds in which racism was often used.
Anyways, Lily has also risked everything to get to Rosaleen as well. For instance, while she was in the hospital, Lily got to Rosaleen by lying her way through every security guard. The fact that Lily ran away with Rosaleen shows that she loves her and that she doesn’t want to live without her. Another
