From celebrities getting their own astrologists to reading about one’s star sign, interpreting the stars and planets seems to be popular. Perhaps people want an answer to their questions or some insight on how to handle a situation. Reading their horoscope gives people the opportunity to understand the world around them, similar to the role of superstition in Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Mark Twain, in his American Realistic novel, utilizes superstition in order to help the characters understand life and search for the truth (Cohen 68). Therefore, superstition plays an important role in the novel.
The basic astrological assumptions are not hard to grasp. For if astronomy is the study of the movements of the heavenly bodies, then astrology is the study of the effects of those movements. The astronomers of the ancient world assumed a division of the universe whereby the superior, immutable bodies of the celestial worlds ruled over the terrestrial or sublunary sphere, where all was mortality and change. It was assumed that the stars had special qualities and influences which were transmitted downwards upon the passive earth, and which varied in their effect, according to the changing relationship of the heavenly bodies to each other. Before I start explaining what birth order does I want clarify exactly what it is. When I said birth order I know at least one person, probably more thought of something similar to astrology. In some ways they are similar. They both group personalities and have a basis in science, but that’s where the similarity stops. Birth order does not predict the future. Also, while birth orders facts are almost identical anywhere you look, I have found horoscopes where the methods used are so different that one source can say today’s you lucky day while another source for that same day may say that you will be brutally murdered by a dark stranger.

My whole life I always saw astrology as just a tiny paragraph in the back of my magazine that made silly predictions about my upcoming month in its latest issue. After learning more about astrology and its origins through informational videos and online articles I am so intrigued. I learned that you have a sun sign, which is your zodiac sign that’s most commonly known, but you also have a moon sign, a rising sign and connections to the planets that all stem from something called your birth chart. Your birth chart is unique to each individual and is based off of when and where you were born and how that time and place connects to the universe and it’s relation to the planets. It was so cool to see how intricate and scientific astrology actually is and it was even cooler to be able to see how that all applies to my zodiac sign and how that relates to my personality, life and relationships with my friends and family. I don’t think it will be something I will commonly use but I did enjoy learning more about it and being able to gain a better appreciation for it and it’s concepts. I think the people who truly believe in astrology or who apply it to their every day lives most likely really enjoy making connections about things and learning more about themselves and those around
Humanity uses numbers as a way to communicate beyond words, evoking ideas more readily than words alone are able to. All religions and cultures have significant numbers that communicate an essence or idea more quickly and completely than words can. It is in this manner that Toni Morrison uses numbers in Beloved. Significant numbers occur starting with the first symbols of the text and the words on the pages before the body of the text starts.
One thing about my identity is my name. We are all given a name at birth or before or maybe even later on. I was named Reilly Grace Agadoni, it’s not just my name though; it is something that is apart of who I am. It is a unique name to my family. My first name was just something that my mom found in a book and thought it would suit me. The origin that it was from was Irish and it also mean that Reilly is “courageous, and valiant”. It’s funny cause I’m not even Irish, not at all. My middle name was from my great grandmother, Grandma Grace. The origin of the name is of Latin. She died awhile ago. But her and the name of her is now apart of me. My last name is Italian, so my whole family is Italian. We tend to like food and drink and we have a strong commitment to family, including extended family. I was also adopted so that might add to more family. My birth parents were also Italian, which was a coincidence. A good coincidence though!

A baby’s life helps to form and shape the future for that child; this goes the same for me. My birth, my sign, and my name, all relate to the way I live and act today. Many people may not see this connection for themselves, but it takes a little bit of research and thinking to come to realize why people are the way they are.
