Throughout Pi’s time on the lifeboat, there are many times showing how Pi is a hero. Many times, people think of heroes as a physical and strong people, but often times heroes are strong on the inside. The word, “Hero” is defined as someone or something being admired for courage, and that is what more people need to understand. In the Life of Pi, Pi is a great example showing that to be a hero it doesn't take physical strength or factors. The Life of Pi or the Hero’s Journey both show skills and strengths that can show a hero in someone. In A Hero’s Journey, it shows an organized set of characteristics that would be found in a hero. The first event usually happening in throughout a hero's life is a call to adventure. During this stage something has shaken up the situation. According to A Hero’s Journey, “The hero must face the beginnings of change.”(Vogler). This is stating that they will be in out of a comfort zone and have to develope a new plan. The next theory in., A Hero’s Journey is meeting with the mentor. This takes place, because throughout a hero's life, they need to be taught and learn how to stay strong mentally and physically. Vogler writes, “The hero reaches within to a source of courage and wisdom.” (Vogler). The next thing listed in A Hero’s Journey is tests, allies, and enemies. Vogler explains that during a the life of a heroic person, there will be a time where they meet tests and have things go wrong. There will also be distractions and enemy forces going against.
