The film Life of Pi uses many elements both stylistic and technological to tell the story. Every element incorporated in the production process is established and used very effectively in the overall presentation of the story. Each element is well balanced in the importance of their need, and those with higher emphasis are done so to illustrate a more important aspect of the story. Overall, the combined elements make for a very effective and well-told story. Lighting is a major aspect of this film. The time is not always given but it is suggested by the amount of light in the scene. During the tense time that Pi trying to save his family and also himself, there is no music, only the diegetic sound from the world he is experiencing. Then when he is plunged into the water and essentially watches the ship that holds his family sink to the bottom of the ocean, the music sets in. The contrast between the fast paced and loud moments prior are shifted immediately as the diegetic sound ceases and the slow score beings. This moment is crucial to the story because it not only shows the emotion that the protagonist is experiencing, but it also brings the audience in and causes them to experience this as well. This is mainly possible through the music, and the timing that the music sets in and intensifies as well. The score seems to be set around the events of the story. For example when he is watching the ship sink, the peak of this music happens when he is turned and experiencing the inability to save his family or do anything in the moment. A few moments later, he is calling out for his family in agony and as a wave hits his face and he screams the score peaks a second time. This is relevant to the story because it really gives the audience a peak into the emotions that the protagonist is experiencing as well at the immense
