In 1492, Christopher Columbus was a self-made man who worked his way up to being the Captain of a merchant vessel. He gained the support of the Spanish monarchs, Ferdinand and Isabella, for an expedition to the Indies. With the support of the Spanish monarchy, he set off to find a new and faster trade route to the Indies. Upon the arrival of his first voyage, Columbus wrote a letter to Luis de Santangel, a “royal official and an early supporter of his venture,” in February 1493 (35). The epistle, letter, entitled “Letter to Luis de Santangel Regarding the First Voyage” was copied and then distributed in Spain before being translated and spread throughout Europe. The Letter is held in such regard with the people as it is considered the first printed description of the new world. Through his description of the nature of the islands, Columbus decided the future fate of the islands. His description of the vast beauty of the nature around him, declares both the economic and nationalistic motivations for colonizing the new world.
make it a word and a blow" Mercutio is trying to wind Tybalt up and is
Mercutio. But he was too strong in his drunken rage and his arrogant male pride was at stake. At first it started with harmless bantering. Then abruptly, both Mercutio and Tybalt drew swords.
In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue. However, even after centuries later, little is truly known of the mysterious voyage and findings of the new world.1 By examining “Letter from Columbus to Luis Santangel”, one can further contextualize the events of Columbus' exploration of the New World. The letter uncovers Columbus' subtle hints of his true intentions and exposes his exaggerated tone that catered to his lavish demands with Spain. Likewise, The Columbian Voyage Map read in accordance with the letter helps the reader track Columbus' first, second, third, and fourth voyage to the New World carefully and conveniently. Thus, the letter and map's rarity and description render invaluable insight into Columbus' intentionality of the New World and its indigenous inhabitants.
Mercutio is a clever, short-tempered, and a sharp witted man who loves to fight out of anger when threatened or criticized. Mercutio is known for having anger issues and does not think before getting involved. After a run in with Tybalt, “Consort? What,
Galileo Galilei was an Italian scientist, often referred to as “the father of modern physics”. He was one of the inventors of the telescope and a strong proponent of Copernicanism. Galileo used his invention to make astronomical observations which supported Copernicus’ heliocentric model of the universe. These discoveries led to a fierce dispute, because they contradicted the theory which was prevalent at the time – that the universe followed a geocentric model, a theory, which had been accepted by the Catholic Church. To address this dispute, Galileo wrote a letter to Tuscany’s Grand Duchess Christina, in which he presented his position on the relation between science and religion, stating that the Bible does not contradict science.
Tybalt was hoping that Romeo would be present. Mercutio, however, started to joke around which slightly aggravated Tybalt. When Romeo turned up, Tybalt directly challenged him to a fight:
Humor can be found to be a virtue and a vice; however, in the grimmest situations humor may allow the gravity to turn into glee and gayness. Mercutio’s greatest aspect is his sense of humor. Which he doesn’t fail to display even in the most inappropriate moments. An instance of such portrayal is during the scene where Romeo has ditched Benvolio and Mercutio in pursuit of Juliet, in the Capulet’s garden. In which Mercutio comically says, “Nay, I’ll conjure too. / Romeo! Humors! Madman! Passion! Lover!” (II.i.7-8). This moment can be considered much graver than Mercutio depicts it to be which makes this scene much more like comic relief than a serious scene. The fact that there are Montague’s in Capulet’s territory is serious enough and can cause some major consequences for the perpetrators if caught. And now to betray their positio...
.However,as the play progresses,it becomes noticeable that Benvolio has changed through his character and makes different choices to help his friends, but as the same time deceives them. The text states that,”O noble Prince,I can discover all The unlucky manage of this fatal brawl. There lies the man, slain by young Romeo,That slew thy kinsman, brave Mercutio.”(3.1 144-147) Shakespeare forms him to be a leader when situations are not the best between the Capulets and the Montagues;he portrayed beginning when the “civil brawls”(1.1 92) first started breaking out in the streets.
The name is Francesco, also known as Francesco “The Menace” Venturella. Let me tell you a little about myself. I’m a capo or what you would call a captain of the Genovese family.I had to clip some people, do some dirty work to be a capo. I have done many things that I am not proud of but they had to be done to keep order. I have dedicated my life to the Genovese Family and I would die for my brothers. All of my soldiers respect me, they are a bit scared of me, but most of all respect me. I have a wife and 3 children, 2 boys and a little girl. I have been with my wife, Angela, for over 20 years. My oldest son Marco is 18 now, about to turn 19 in 2 months, May 21st. My other son, Stefano, is 15 and he is a fierce one I tell you. Then there is my little angel, Isabella, she just turned ten last month. As a capo I have many responsibilities some of which are keeping my men in check, making money for the mafia, and reporting to the Don. I have made a lot of money for this mafia and i believe i am next in line to be Don.
...yalty. The line said by Mercutio: “O calm, dishonourable, vile submission! Alla stoccata carries it away (He draws) Tybalt, you ratcatcher, will you walk” The use of Descriptive triplet in the words ‘vile,’ ‘dishonourable’ and ‘submission’ all have negative connotations which emphasises Mercutio’s anger with Romeo because he won’t defend for himself, thinking Romeo is submissive and cowardly in not wanting to fight.. Mercutio had paid the ultimate price of love, to protect Romeo’s honour and loyalty, his life. Mercutio’s tone of bitterness emphasises his anger with the conflict with the two families taking his life cursing them both (families): “I am hurt. A plague a’ both house! I am sped. Is he gone and hath nothing.”
Mercutio and Tybalt get into a heated argument when they crossed each other’s path. It started
In the beginning the feud is reignited by these simple lines: “If you start a quarrel I’m ready. My master is as good as your master. (I, i, 44) This brought Benvolio in to the fight. Benvolio tries to stop the fight but Tybalt the hot headed Capulet attacks him. Montague and Capulet charge at each other swords defining each other. The Prince arrives and orders them to stop. He threatens the Families with their lives. With this the Feud is rekindled.
Members of their town did not respect Mercutio and Tybalt Why?. They are passionate and over eccentric characters who enjoy voicing their opinions. Although it can seem humorous, they are psychopaths who enjoy stirring up trouble. If they didn’t express their views history would’ve been completely altered. An example of their craziness is Mercutio’s long monologue warning Romeo about Queen Mab, a fairy queen. Mercutio rants, “O, then, I see Queen Mab hath been with you. She is the fairies’ midwife, and she comes. In shape no bigger than an agate-stone” (1.4,54-55) This proves that Mercutio is over eccentric and has a large sense of imagination. This may not directly lead to conflict, but this crazy action proves that Mercutio can be heavily
