Leon Platteau
The holocaust was a time in history where the Jewish people were stripped of their humanity, dignity and lives. Hitler's insidious rise to power and ability to brainwash made the people of Germany believe what the nazis were doing was right and just. The bigotry and anger was already in the hearts of some Germans due to their loss in World War I, as well as the economic downfall Germany experienced. Even for those who were not brainwashed, Hitler's heinous abuse of power took away their courage to stand up for what was truly right. Fortunately enough for the Jewish people, individuals such as Leon Platteau stood up for what was right and had enough courage to risk his own life to aid the Jewish people during these dark times.

These children would be told that they were going to a “school” and shuffled into a van that turned out to be a gas chamber. Holocaust from Latin translates to genocide, Hitler wanted to eradicate the Jewish people. Leon was able to help save people, unfortunately many still lost their lives. Leons role in politics gained him connections with Yvonne Nevejean who was the director of the National Childhood Office in Belgium. It was through her that Leon gained the connection to the Committee of Defense and fight vigorously to ensure the safety of the children. In the end Leon played a leading role in saving over three thousand Jewish children. Leon aided by sending money to the Committee of Jewish Defence, which allowed them to keep children alive each month. It was said that Leon protested in a mannerism such as Queen Elizabeth, not only did his financial contributions help but the wonderful message he gave to people through his continuous activism. “These are the times that try men’s souls.” -Thomas Paine, The American Crisis. During these hopeless times while many lost hope, Leon Platteau gave others hope to cling on to. I don’t believe many other modern politicians would take the stand that Leon took.
There are similarities between how Hitler created more hate in his people and how Donald Trump is doing the same with ours. Hitler used blaming as a tactic in the same way Trump does with Muslims and Latinos. Hitler blamed Germany's problems on the Jewish people in the same fashion Trump points blame on Latinos for the loss of jobs and other problems America
During the Holocaust in 1933 a lot of Jewish parents were trying to hide their children to protect them from harm or death by the Nazis. The Nazis were trying to kill all Jewish people. There are a lot of people that were risking their lives for the children of Jews. I’m going to be talking about one of the woman that helped save some children. Caecilia Antonia Maria Loots was a hero of the holocaust because she helped save children while putting her life at risk.
There are many heroic individuals in history that have shown greatness during a time of suffering ,as well as remorse when greatness is needed, but one individual stood out to me above them all. He served as a hero among all he knew and all who knew him. This individual, Simon Wiesenthal, deserves praise for his dedication to his heroic work tracking and prosecuting Nazi war criminals that caused thousands of Jews, Gypsies, Poles and other victims of the Holocaust to suffer and perish.
Throughout time, history has proven that through conflict and poor living conditions, it can be quite simple and painless to put all the blame on someone. Adolf Hitler was able to blame people such as the Jews, homosexuals, gypsies, mentally ill, etc. This seemed like an easy answer. All the problems in the world were the result of these types of people. Once Hitler was able to persuade the majority of Germany that this racist thought was true and that they should be afraid and very concerned about being taken over by these people.

Most people think that one person cannot make a difference. If more people would have taken a stand, then quite possibly more Jewish people would have been saved. One person does make a difference, Oskar Schindler proved.
Many people including them went out of their way to help Jews that they felt needed to stay safe. Most rescuers did all that they could to help save the Jews from the many dangers that they were each in. Even when some rescuers were caught, they each helped save a life of a Jew in some way or another. These courageous and strong-hearted individuals or groups including others each risked their lives to make an impact on the Jews’
There are times in history when desperate people plagued by desperate situations blindly give evil men power. These men, once given power, have only their own evil agendas to carry out.
