Education isn’t only about learning school subjects and passing our classes, it’s also about learning from life experiences, our failures and even from our family. Every day is a learning experience and in this essay, I’ll be giving you a little insight of my learning experience throughout my life that is important to me and how it shaped me into the person that I am today.
Education in a class room is one of the most important education out there, without the basic knowledge of math, reading and writing, it would be hard to survive in the real world. It’s is because of this that I am most grateful for the time and attention that was given to me the second time I was in second grade. The first time I went into second grade was at J.T. My father is a high school dropout. Two weeks before his graduation, his ex-wife got pregnant and so he dropped out and immodestly got a job as a welder. Ever since then he has worked seven days a week with a lot of over time. My father taught me that no matter how tired you are we must always get up to make a living. My mother on the other hand had also taught me that it never too late to do what you want, she worked full time raised three kids and went back to school full time when I was about twelve years old. Last year in December 2017, she graduated with her master’s degree and is currently working on her second master degree. Learning is important for countless reasons, the most important reason being that it molds a person into who he or she is. What people choose to learn, and also what they choose not to, create the core of their opinions as individuals. Though people do not admit it or openly declare it, it is fair to say almost everyone is self centered. Because of this, and the fact that learning dramatically affects a person, learning is not only thrilling, but also expressive. Furthermore, since learning is expressive, its meaning varies from person to person, therefore making each person’s experiences with learning unique and life changing.
I was raised in an encouraging household where both of my parents greatly valued education. Although they were high school graduates, neither could afford to attend college; a combination of family and financial woes ultimately halted their path. As a result, my parents frequently reminded me that getting a good education meant better opportunities for my future. To my parents, that seemed to be the overarching goal: a better life for me than the one they had. My parents wanted me to excel and supported me financially and emotionally of which the former was something their parents were not able to provide. Their desire to facilitate a change in my destiny is one of many essential events that contributed to my world view.
Introduction A service learning experience is designed to enhance a student 's growth in personal and social development and to obtain an understanding of community involvement. For my service learning experience, I volunteered at Change Point Center. In this reflection paper, I will discuss in depth information about the services that Change Point provides, my goals while I was there,and what I ultimately learned from this experience. When I first walked into Mrs. G’s English classroom, I had mixed emotions. I was eager to be there and I’m glad I was provided with an opportunity to interact with students and the teacher before class started. It felt lovely to be greeted by Mrs. G. with a good morning and small greeting. There are approximately 24 students and I did my best to count them as fast I could without making it uncomfortable for the scholars. My parents are two of the most hardworking people I know. Although a college dropout, my father is now an engineer at the Boeing Company, while my mother ran a well-known daycare until I started high school. My parents had decided to homeschool my three siblings and me a little after I was born, and to do so, they had no qualms about sacrificing time, money, or respect. When I entered ninth grade, my parents chose to close my mother’s daycare to better homeschool my siblings and me, which meant my father had to then single-handedly support our family of six.
My parents have this perfect life for me pictured in their heads, and the first thing they see me doing is going to college. They expect the best of me, and so by going to college, I will not only have fulfilled their goals for me, but I will have accomplished one of the goals I have set for myself. In our culture, when parents come to the age where they can’t support themselves, it is the duty of the children to look after them.
Education gives people the competence and skills to pilot the world. It also allows people to provide and contribute to their society and community. Like Nelson Mandela said “ Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. Similar to our lives, our educational journeys are different from one another. My educational journey was a very complicated journey. My family and mentors supported me, so was able to overcome those obstacles. The biggest motivation that got me through this journey was my father’s courage and love for education.
An education is something that one can keep for a lifetime. Acquiring a good education can affect one’s personal life, one’s community, and one’s entire generation.
This being my first year of teaching I feel there are so many things that I have learned, and have helped me too become a good teacher. Yet I have so much more to learn, I still believe that students have the ability to learn and as a teacher it is my job to find ways to help them to become the best person they can be. Through being a reflective teacher, using professionalism, respecting diversity and having collaboration and community connecting this can be accomplished. When I am having fun teaching the student will have learning that material, this will help them to be relaxed and engaged in that lesson. I feel it is important to connect what they are learning to things that they have experienced in the real-world.
Everyone has a different view on how they learn and learning itself. First starting in EXP 105, my understanding of learning was new knowledge and becoming wiser. Taking EXP 105 has truly increased my knowledge of what learning is and the process of it. The most important thing I have learned about learning is that you observe the world around you, make sure it is understandable, and figure out the right way to respond. Learning also provides critical thinking skills. Everyone have different ways of learning and those ways are based on four different learning patterns. The four different types of learning patterns are Sequence, Precision, Technical Reasoning, and Confluence. My father never attended college and has had trouble keeping a job. He works long hours 7 days a week and regrets not taking his education more seriously. My dad has always told me that I 'm too smart to live the life he lives and that I will go to college so that I can live better than he does. While he has given up on making his life better he has not given up on making sure my future is secure because he knows that I have the ability to do great. A great deal of my confidence comes from his actions and because of it I 've achieved more than I knew I could. I never thought I would go to a college and pursue a degree I always figured I 'd go to a trade school. Education is the very foundation in which we as individuals grow, and formulate the knowledge we gain through life into meaningful ways of adapting to the world.
Teachers and students alike know the outmost importance of education. Everything from getting a job to being respected is based on your academic standing. The more accurate question has been what exactly should be learned? While noting the word success, an achievement of something intended or desired, I asked myself how much information is merely needed to survive in our society and how much is needed to be successful? I also sometimes ask myself how much of the information that I have learned is attained and used in my daily life.
When you step back and look at the big picture of life, you will notice that the concept of learning plays an essential role in it. What you learn and how you learn is your key to life success and it can open a multitude of doors for you along the way. Learning, however, is routine and much like other activities that are routine such as brushing your teeth or eating meals, you begin to think less and less about what you are doing or how you have been doing it. I never actually put too much thought into how I learned or the origins of my learning experience, but after reflecting on the ideas I have been able to clearly identify the manners in which I have learned and how I can transform my learning experience
In a person’s life, they learn from everything around them, and take in everything that they see, and learn from all of it. Hopefully, they get a good result so that they may be able to make a difference in the world around them. I feel that I have to tools to make the changes that I want, and the knowledge to know how to make these changes. I look toward the future with a bright outlook, and know that to keep learning is the key to making my bright outlook the truth. For my future and the future of people younger and older than me, education will always be the key.
