The team of detectives in the TV series, Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, helps to communicate with victims of sexual assault to help them come forward and solve the crimes that were committed. Communication is an important job in helping to solve these cases. After a quick summary of the TV series, I will be showing how the concepts of communication we learned in class, Self-fulfilling prophecy, prejudice, practicing active listening, and cohesiveness, help the team solve the crimes. In summary, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit is a TV drama series. The show is about a team of New York Police Department detectives and the cases they investigate every day. The Special Victims Unit is based on investigating sexually based crimes. In season 13, the team includes detectives Olivia Benson, Nick Amaro, Amanda Rollins and Fin Tutuola, along with the Captain, Don Cragen. This concept is shown throughout the episode by the coach. In the very first scene, the coach is accepting a hall of fame award for his success with his team. One of his old players, Stevie, walks into the room screaming at the coach. He yells, “You should be ashamed of yourself! You know what you did.” The coach ignores this disruption and finishes on with his award ceremony due to his elf-fulfilling prophecy.
