According to research, birth to 5 years old is a significant time for children to develop language and literacy skills. With this fact, it is important to set a favorable environment for children at this stage to effectively develop language skills. Speech and language development is an important part of every child. At the age of 3 to 5 years old, the following are some of the language development milestones to be expected:
• Can construct a sentence as they develop grammar skills
• Can participate in conversations with children and adults
• Can understand what they are being told
• Can understand different colors and sizes
• Can say their language
• Can understand non-verbal communication therefore can react to some of the expressions

1. Plan a Nature Hunt Providing the child with verbal clues when they are not yet reading and allow them to search for the hidden things. They could be items of different colors and shapes. This activity will help the child to develop the skills of differentiating different items. The main agenda for this activity is to develop memory, reading, categorizing and listening skills (Hagen, 2016).
2. Scrapbook Activity Go for an outing with the 3-5-year-old children and take as many pictures as possible to print later. Give them to the child later and let them arrange them in the sequence of where you visited first to the last place. At every picture, they can say what they did. This activity will help in building expressive confidence, they will understand how to answer questions and encourage sequencing.
3. Sing together with the Child Singing helps in developing language skills because children learn how to express themselves verbally. They may not get the right pitch by they will learn how to pronounce the words in the songs. Singing together builds their confidence to speak and express themselves.
