Lance Carter was undoubtedly Rose’s favorite mystery. He was alway a man that decided for himself who he was going to be. Impossibly hard to read and extremely well off in every department that mattered (to him, at least), his spontaneity was the only characteristic of his personality that never completely altered. The number of feelings he expressed with every bright eyed gaze, drew people towards him. But no one saw every side of his multifaceted personality. At every moment he was something, but also the exact contradiction. A real life version of Pandora’s box. Every answer he gave always held some sort of ambiguity, but his actions more often decided his opinions than his countless words. When Rose was younger she found him to be vulgar and therefore exciting and therefore a matter of utmost interest. On many occasions in his youth he advocated for Prohibition, but he was very often reported skulking near a well-known speakeasy where the great and famous would often flaunt their wealth and talent. More than a few times he was caught with a flask in hand in his teens, but after numerous stories of his untrue standings, his activism faded overnight.
