When asked what they would want more of in life, a large majority of Americans had the same answer, time. In today’s consumer driven world there is a lack of time for Americans. In order to understand why the lack of time is such an important topic the following must be understood: why there is a shortage of time, what are the effects of not having time, and what can do to correct this issue. EXPAND. As a means to grasp the time problem seen in American lives, first it must be known why Americans have a lack of time. While there are many side effects of Americans lack of time, a major one may be the way it can affect our mental health. “America has the highest rates of anxiety and depression” (K. Johnson, personal communication, September 2017). It just so happens that America “swallows half of the world’s antidepressants” (DeGraaf, Wann, & Naylor, 2014, 98). There is a link that can be seen between America’s anxiety and depression rates and the lack of time they have. Take a “look at all the countries that have the most prosperity, and [they are] the same countries that have the most stress” (DeGraaf, Wann, & Naylor, 2014, 35). With the amount of stress Americans take on, it is no surprise that It takes a toll on their mental health. “Many studies show a correlation between stress and the development of mood disorders such as anxiety disorders and depression” (Maldonado, 2014). This is not just to say that Americans are getting more divorces than ever because that is not true. In fact, “American divorce rate has flattened in recent years” whether or not this has anything to do with how little time Americans has not been said, but an argument for it could be made (DeGraaf, Wann, & Naylor, 2014, 44). The true reason that Americans are getting less divorces is the fact that “to fewer people willing to make the commitment in the first place”. This is due to the fact that Americans have such little time to make available for themselves, let alone another person. Although American divorce rates have leveled off in recent years, America still “has the highest divorce rate” (DeGraaf, Wann, & Naylor, 2014, 98). Americans unnecessarily deal with these negative side effect of not having time when there are easy solutions to the time
