The Glade represents the lack of freedom. The Glade was where the Gladers were forced to live. This symbol holds their childhood, since they were sent up to the Glade when they were very young and no one has found the exit. Either, they died while finding the exit, or they survived, but lived the Glader life for the rest of their life.
The cliff represents the boundaries and restrictions of the Gladers. Basically, the cliff was a point between life and death. When we think of someone standing at the edge of a cliff, we see the other side of the cliff as death. In The Maze Runner, the cliff showed the boundary line. If they Gladers step beyond the cliff, they would die, however, if they stay within the boundary, they would survive. The cliff
