According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) is categorized as a hallucinogen, psychedelic, and a psychotomimetic. LSD is not as commonly used like nicotine and heroin but is still prevalent in the world today. This drug has been around for many years taking users to different worlds and giving a whole new sight on the world around us. Despite the fact LSD is an illegal drug, without it certain movies, songs, and art would not be around that many people know and love today. Many drugs do not have much of a benefitting effect, but LSD does have a few, along with some bad effects as well. Ever since the creation of LSD, scientists have been gaining knowledge of the effects it has on the human body and also the effects on society once it was released to the public. When LSD was first created it was a complete accident and what it is used for today was unintentional. In 1938, Albert Hofmann created LSD unintentionally. This is how most drugs are created; they start off as a mistake until a use for them is discovered. In 1943, Albert accidentally ingested some LSD, discovering its effects on the human body. On this trip Albert Hofmann felt as if he was going to die, also like he left his body along with kaleidoscope vision. (Grey 97). Not everyone will get this feeling that they are about to die, LSD affects some people differently than others, plus this was the very first trip ever so Hofmann was unaware that these symptoms would occur. Most LSD users should keep in mind the possibility of having a bad trip when using this drug.
