AGENCY REPORT ON KW HABILITATION
Canadian survey on disability in 2012 has reported that an estimated 3.8 million adult canadiens are limited in their activities due to disability. Developmental disability may be mental and/or physical impairment. Developmemntal disabilities cause individual to face many difficulties especially in learning, mobility, flexibility, self-help, and independent living. Most common disabilities in adult and children are Fragile X-Syndrome, Downs syndrome, Cerebral palsy, Angelman syndrome, Pervasive developmental disorder,autism, intellectual disability. There are many organisations throughout Canada which support individuals with developmentsl disability. I have chosen KW Habilitation, for my volunteering work,

Kw Habilitation has over 500 employees and they provide services and supports more than 2000 children and adults each year. KW Habilitation believes in building a good lives, community connection, volunteer opportunities, recreational activities and community participation.

KW Habilitation supports adults and children in many homes throughout the cities of Kitchener and Waterloo. It focuses on individualised support that helps to promote the wellbeing of mind, body and soul.

Kw Habilitation provides ‘The Supported Living Program’, where people live independently either on their own or in shared accommodations and it offers assistance to improve the independent living abilities of the disabled

KW Habilitation provides an interactive summer program for youth- ‘Youth Exploring Possibilities (YEP)’. This program is offered for 9 weeks in the summer and mainly focus on exploration of community resources, recreational activities, work place and volunteer sites and also to develop confidence in the community by utilising Grand River Transit as primary mode of transportation.

KW Habilitation provides early learning, supported independent living, community participation and employment supports through ‘ Achieve ability Campaign’.

KW Habilitation has joined local food movement in 2011. It has 9 acres of organic productive farm, where it cultivates more than 20 different vegetables. Many companies and community people help to horticultural farming buy donating seeds, plants, plant materials and
