Introduction Description of the Business Barney Kroger who invested his life savings into opening his own grocery store established the Kroger Company in 1883. His once small business, beginning at 66 Pearl Street in Cincinnati, has now grown to more than 2,400 stores in the United States under multiple banners. This retailer and manufacturer sells things from fresh produce to gas in one of its 1,090 fuel centers operating on its facility. This once small town business has grown into one of the largest retailer and manufacturer businesses ever to operate in America. With Kroger being a retailer and manufacturer, its annual sales are an astonishing 96 billion dollars, allowing the Kroger Company to rank as one of America’s top manufacturers and one of the world’s top retailers. Of course, there were opportunities that were taken advantage of, leading to their high position in retailing and manufacturing. In particular, considered one of the biggest mergers in Kroger’s history, Kroger partnered with Fred Meyer Incorporated in a 13 billion dollar deal, creating supermarket chains with the largest geographical coverage any business has ever seen. Because of this merger, Kroger has since obtained huge economies in purchasing, manufacturing, and information systems and logistics, making Kroger an outstanding retailer and manufacturing company. Description of the Community Economic: Based on businessweek, Kroger Company in the past year has made an increase of 6,377 dollars in total revenue. In fact, according to the 4-year trend, each year for the past 4 years the total revenue for the Kroger Company increased by the thousands. The new target market could possibly be Americans who have a partner or a child in the home with them instead of the traditional American home, which is actually changing as society evolves. Reassessing the target market of the Kroger Company shows that it is better to choose the target market of Americans with more than one person in the house because Americans who are living on their own tend to eat more fast food than those Americans who have another person to take care of. Research Methods Used in the Study Analysis of the Kroger Company Business Methodology The purpose of my study of the Kroger Company was to provide an understanding of how the Kroger Company became the Fortune 500 company it has become.
