In Shakespeare story King Lear, two of the women were portrayed as emasculating and disloyal while the third was honest and truthful. Showing, that most women who have power can’t be trusted. The story told of a king named Lear who had three daughters named Goneril, Regan, and Cordelia. Lear had given his two oldest daughters Goneril, and Regan a piece of land even though they had lied to their father telling him feelings that they didn’t really have. Then there was his youngest daughter she was as honest and truthful as any other child could be.
King Lear’s two oldest daughters, Goneril and Regan were liars and were not trustworthy women. They both would do and say anything just to get an edge. Like for example in Act I of the story King Lear, had owned a huge piece of land that he had decided to divide it between all three of his daughters and all they had to do was just express or tell him how much they loved him. His two oldest daughters were very clever and deceiving, they knew that they could say the right words to get their father to be happy and satisfying. The two daughters had said that they loved him more than anyone could ever love someone or something; they said the love that they had expressed for him was more than they had loved their own husbands. The King being foolish gave his two daughters the land and was so filled with joy by the words that Goneril and Regan had told him. His youngest daughter was asked the same

question but had given a much unexpected response, she said that yes she had loved her father but apparently not as much as Goneril and Regan claimed they did. This response made the king very upset and he came to be outraged with his daughter and made the decision in banishing her. This was proof...

... She seemed to

have committed suicide by stabbing herself with a knife. This was not like every story that has a “happily ever after” ending. Cordelia had been killed by her own sister’s plots and so was her father King Lear. Goneril and Regan were both liars and scornful, they had planned to kill their own family members just to get what they pleased for.
This story had many plot twist and might have caused a bit of confusion at times but Shakespeare was just trying to get his point across through the story. With that being said after reading this story King Lear and writing about this theory I think that Shakespeare does get his point across and it shows drastically throughout the story. This makes my thesis understood more clearly and my point is proven, “not all women are liars and hurtful, but the ones who are given power… not all of them can be trusted.”
