Background Kids to kids Foundation is a non-profit based children’s foundation in Nairobi, Kenya that provides children from the Kibagare, Kangemi and Kawangware slums and street kids from Westlands with an education. The foundation was founded in the late 90’s and was initially part of a church project; the ACK-Christ Church where the foundation is based. It started with an unfortunate but fortunate incident when one afternoon; a middle aged woman was robbed by a street kid in Westlands. The woman and her colleaguesfrom the women’s group in church pondered on the reason the little boy had for stealing and they later discovered that there were a significant number of street children that did not have anything to eat and thus succumbed to robbery. …show more content…
• Motto - A bridge to a hopeful future The foundation has an informal school curriculum that involves lessons on life skills, numeracy and literacy. Since the children are all at different ages, the foundation applies multi-age teaching methods. The subjects taught include Geography, Science, Kiswahili, English and History. They also engage in various activities such as sports and crafts. A normal school day at the foundation starts at 7.30am and ends at 3.30 pm. Through building a network of partners with other churches, the foundation will be able to assist more unprivileged children and even create more prospects for the organization. Habitual volunteers There are a number of volunteers who visit the foundation and keep returning to offer their services. The foundation should ensure that they develop a relationship with these individuals as they have a great potential to increase awareness and fundraising for the foundation wherever they go. Threats Negative view of non-profits There have been numerous stories about non-profits that have misused funds and this at times disheartens donors and makes them reluctant to give or even makes them put restrictions on their donations thus threatening an establishment such as this that solely relies on donations.

Also, growing up in a community with dangerous streets, gangs, confused social expectations, discouraging role models, and few connections to outsiders commanding resources becomes a burden for any child. The concern about the number of children living in poverty arises from our knowledge of the problems children face because of poverty.

The Children’s Miracle Network is a non-profit organization that provides charitable funds to 170 children’s hospitals in the United States and Canada. Nearly 500 corporations participate in fundraisers and campaigns that provide hospitals with equipment, research, and care to children who suffer from injuries and illnesses. To date, Children’s Miracle Network has raised more than 4.7 billion dollars, and what’s unique about this organization is that every penny stays within the network (CMN, n.d.). Children’s Miracle Network has been extremely successful over the last thirty one years due to the relationships that they have built with corporations, the extreme media coverage that they obtain, and the lives and stories of those associated with CMN that have influenced communities to make a difference one dollar at a time.

We are privileged to have our own Ronald McDonald House here in Omaha, located at 620 South 38th Avenue in the downtown area. In 2013, the Omaha Ronald McDonald House recycled around 35 million pop tabs donated by local schools, businesses, organizations, and families. Additionally, the chapter holds various fundraisers throughout the year, open to public participation. Some of this year’s upcoming events are the Omaha Golf Classic at Shadow Ridge Country Club, the Kids and Clays Shooting Sports Tournament in Brainard, Nebraska, the vinNebraska Wine Event, and the Wings and Wheels Auto and Air Show. Many people in the U.S. believe poverty is a major issue in other countries but fail to realize that there are high poverty rates at home as well. When looking at poverty there are many age groups that are affected at different levels, and one of the age groups that is dramatically impacted is children under the age of 18. Having a wish fulfilled is a desire everyone keeps, but granting one is a special characteristic of a chosen few. Such is the ideology of the Make a wish foundation. This simple, but powerful belief is what drives the Make-A-Wish foundation. For children who must face the uncertainty of a tomorrow, due to their rapidly deteriorating health, a wish is more than just a desire. It’s a hope. Hope is what carries us out of the darkest of slums, to keep going. To face a tomorrow. Make-A-Wish is committed to granting the wish of every eligible child. They do this believing that wishes can make sick children feel better, and sometimes, when they feel better, they get better.
