Myles Patterson Ms.Velasco English 2 26 September 2017 KD Kevin Durant is arguably the second best basketball player in the world. The seven foot giant grew up Washington DC with his brother and mom. Durant growing up in a single parent household made him grow up faster, which caused his work ethic to sky rocket. As a child, he would sleep in the gym after closing just to working at his craft. The extra practice helped him dominate his school and AAU league. After High School he played one year at the University of Texas as a longhorn. Then in 2007 Durant declared for the NBA draft; in conclusion he drafted in the second round by the Seattle Supersonics or now the Oklahoma City Thunder. Now to the legendary season, the MVP season. Durant became almost unstoppable during the 2013-2014 NBA season. He carried the Thunder to the second best record in NBA history 59-23, while averaging 32 points, Shooting 40 percent from the field while sharing the ball with a top rated point guard. But when people talk about Durant’s MVP no one mention his stats or the fact he almost won a championship the same season. The one thing people mention is his MVP speech, where he broke down his story of growing up with a single parent and how his mom did anything and everything to let her son follow his dream. During Durant’s speech he left reporters, fans, teammates and his mother in sobbing tears after saying to his mom “You put clothes on our backs, food on the table. When you didn't eat, you made sure we ate. You went to sleep hungry. You sacrificed for us.
