Scope Mr. Olajide, Kazeem has been working as a staff/Charge Nurse in the Persistent Seriously Mentally ill (PSMI) unit for the past one year. He regularly works evening tour but volunteered multiple times cover night tour when need arises. He enthusiastically accepted rotations to other units (L-143CD, L-143CW).These behaviors proved Mr. Kazeem’s flexibility and as a team player. He also provides leadership and direction to colleagues and holistic and quality care to veterans. During course of care giving, Mr. Kazeem maintains therapeutic milieu and uses nonjudgmental approach in delivering safe quality care to the veterans.

Kazeem is keeping up with treading nursing issues and evolving model of care by reading Journal of Nursing Education and Practice. He is currently pursuing Master Degree in Psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) at Fairleigh Dickinson University. Mr. Kazeem timely completed education activities on TMS and attended other in-service programs such as Annual Competency and PCX competency. Mr. Kazeem is the 2015 “Flu champion” for L-143CN. He provided evidence-based vaccine information to employees who have misconception and able to achieved 85% vaccination. For Mr. Kazeem commitment to veteran care, he was recognized and received Nursing Excellence Award in May, 2015.
Collegiality: Mr. Kazeem is committed to team work. He uses Relationship-Based Care model in providing guidance and mentoring new colleagues. He supports peers and provides evidence-based response in areas of limitations. He provides assistance to peers and other members from other units in resolving technology related issues such as Pyxis and CPRS. The majority of our society holds the notion that nurses are no more than trained professionals, working for a doctor, who simply provide medical care for the sick and informed. However, what nursing means to me goes deeper than that belief. Nursing is a profession in which individuals are responsible for not only the care of the sick and infirmed but are also responsible for being a support system and an educator, as well as an advocate for the promotion of optimal care. In today’s society, nurses are an important part of any medical facility’s investment. This paper will address the many different aspects of nursing in which nurse’s act as not only caregivers but also act as, counselors and educators.
Never has it been more critical to provide high quality care in the hospital while being cost effective. The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (American Association of Colleges of Nursing [AACN], 2005) has created the Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) role to introduce lateral integration of care for specified groups by creatively and intentionally using a variety of health care resources (AACN, 2005). The CNL’s purpose is to aid in various departments of the health care system including the psychiatric department. Although there is continuous tension between medical care and psychiatric care and choosing which is more important for a patient, the Clinical Nurse Leader is intended to bridge the gap between the two.
A team led by RN, should mentally prepare their patients to understand their responsibility towards good health. This can be done by showing them special documentaries during their stay in the hospital, in a common room where other patients can also join them in a group of six to twelve. After the session, patients should be given a short comments form with multiple choice answers (Appendix A). The purpose is to check their positivity towards the message conveyed through the documentary. At this time patient's vitals should be checked and recorded for the future

There is a shortage of all health care professions throughout the United States. One shortage in particular that society should be very concerned about is the shortage of Registered Nurses. Registered Nurses make up the single largest healthcare profession in the United States. A registered nurse is a vital healthcare professional that has earned a two or four year degree and has the upper-most responsibility in providing direct patient care and staff management in a hospital or other treatment facilities (Registered Nurse (RN) Degree and Career Overview., 2009). The health care system of today will be invaluable without the help of well-trained registered professional nurses. According to Wilkinson, Treas, Barnett, Smith (2016) registered nurses in today’s health care have the training required to develop a care plan with other health care workers that is specific for each patient in their care, instead of the same general approach for every patient. This is known as patient centered care because each patient is different from the other and the registered nurse role includes developing a good plan for every patient they care for. The nursing theories that are currently being implemented in the psychiatric area of the emergency room should continue to be implemented along with other nursing theories. With the nursing theories that are currently being implemented it is not solving the problem of a non-therapeutic environment for the pscyharitic patients that are boarding in the emergency room waiting for an inpatient bed to become available, there needs to be other nursing theories implemented in order to solve this problem. The policies and procedures that are put into place in this part of the department should be evidence based and should allow the patient to have a therapeutic environment so the patient is able to start the healing and recovery process while the patient is boarding in the emergency
