What is Evolution: Darwinian Wallace Evolution? Many scientists over the years have questioned what evolution is. Evolution is a theory that has shaped every scientist thought process in order to understand the theory. Charles Darwin is the founder of this theory; this theory became extremely important for all scientists. Darwin published the book On the Origin of Species to allow scientists and others interested in his theory to better understand and use as a resource of knowledge.

This process allows many species to produce offspring with less complications of surviving. This process is a very important one because it is one of the main processes that brings about the theory of evolution. Natural Selection helps compartmentalize species as a whole in order to determine how they are able to maintain survivability. According to research by Kathryn Tabb, there are two very important and central components of Natural Selection; variation and conditions that help eliminate these variations, otherwise known as selection. Tabb’s article Darwin at Orchis Bank: Selection after the Origin states “Much of Darwin’s career was devoted to empirically demonstrate the viability of the first component variation… Darwin’s second component, selection, offered a grave conceptual challenge to his readership”. Tabb is simply stating that Darwin had so much that he wanted to talk about in terms of getting readers to understand his concept, that it was more complex than he imagined. Alfred Russel Wallace, a cofounder of Natural Selection, wanted to simplify this concept, but Darwin could not see the reasoning behind it. In Tabb’s article she states, “Wallace went so far as to cross out “natural selection” in his personal copy of the Origin and replace it with ‘survival of the fittest’” (Browne, 2002, p. 312). Simplifying “natural selection” to “survival of the fittest” helps people that may not understand the concept because would be able to get an idea of what it is from the phrase is straightforward and not ambiguous. To put it briefly, Charles Darwin was a theorist that developed an idea that people may or may not comprehend; now with Wallace’s “survival of the fittest” comparison people began to put the theory with the
