“RUN!”, Kate yelled. She and Mr. Jacks took off into the woods, ducking at every branch. Each time she looked back, the guards got closer and closer. Her heart was pounding out of her chest. She and Mr. Jacks took a sharp turn and dove behind a bush. After the guards ran by, Kate and Mr. Jacks started running again. They had just escaped from the force field, and were almost free. As they were nearing the edge of the woods, they saw a building. It was an abandoned warehouse, where airplanes might have kept at one point. The guards were not in sight anymore, so they bolted into the dark warehouse. As they scanned their surroundings, they quickly realized the warehouse was not abandoned. Inside, it looked like a secret-science laboratory. There were vials, and tubes everywhere, each one filled with a different substance. It smelled putrid. “What is this place?”, Kate asked nervously. “It looks like some sort of government …show more content…
In front of her stood an odd looking man wearing a white lab coat. Mr. Jacks came slowly walking over, staring at the man’s blue hair and odd looking glasses. “Who are you?”, Kate asked. “I am Professor Watson, and this is my laboratory. Who are you?” Kate and Mr. Jacks introduced themselves, and said they had just escaped from a force field. Kate went on to explain that they needed to find another mirror to help others escape. “It is best to leave them in the force field. They are safer in there than they would be out here.” Professor Watson said. Seeing their confused and scared looks Professor Watson started explaining what the force fields are for. “There is a deadly disease spreading through the country. We don’t know what it is or how it got here so we put people in the force fields to study the disease.” Professor Watson explained, “If people are in the force fields, it allows us to keep them in isolation and observe their actions.” Kate and Mr. Jacks nervously stared at each
The government, which was listening to what all was going on through the radio, thought that this was very strange. In the past, they had thought about there being a time when strange organisms from outer space would come to Earth, and try to take over. They decided that they would design a building that could be used to research the different things that they might come across in the future. This building would have to be very sterile so that the organisms couldn’t contaminate anything and destroy the Earth. The building was five stories high and each level was more sterile than the previous one. The building was located in the middle of nowhere underground, so that no one would know about it, unless they were on one of the teams that would be doing the r...
Mary Rowlandson was captured from her home in Lancaster, Massachusetts by Wampanoag Indians during King Phillip’s War. She was held captive for several months. When she was released she penned her story, A Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson. During much of her story she refers to the Indians as savage beasts and heathens but at times seems admire them and appreciate their treatment of her. Mary Rowlandson has a varying view of her Indian captors because she experienced their culture and realized it was not that different from Puritan culture.
“Thank you, sir. I just don’t understand what’s happening, this seems so surreal...Mr. Morris, Where is Lizzie?”
and Jack are in the forest and they see the pig for the first time Jack does not
Ralph’s attitude toward piggy is somewhat rude because of the way he laughs sarcastically to piggy's idea. For example when Ralph asks Piggy “are you going to swim” and piggly replies “no, i wasn't allowed to because of my asthma.” and Ralph says “well that sucks for you.” I myself thought that was really rude because it’s not his fault that Piggy has asthma. Also when he tend to call Piggy fat, which is all the time.
Jack Merridew is the devil-like figure in the story, Lord of the Flies. Jack is wicked in nature having no feelings for any living creature. His appearance and behavior intimidates the others from their first encounter. The leading savage, Jack leans more towards hunting and killing and is the main reason behind the splitting of the boys. It has been said that Jack represents the evilness of human nature; but in the end, Jack is almost a hero. With his totalitarian leadership, he was able to organize the group of boys into a useful and productive society
Joan Theresa is the woman who asks Kate to investigate Janet's case. She lives in a women's commune and is not affiliated to any university. Despite not knowing Kate, she greets her with “'You're Kate'” (Cross 8). By using her first name, she offers Kate a relationship based on equality and does not acknowledge her title. In Joan's case, it is most likely that this title is irrelevant for their relationship (cf. Danziger 43), even though Kate's affiliation to a university plays an important role in the solving of the case. Still, Kate agrees to Joan's view of their relationship: “'Kate ordered capuccino [sic] and some sort of sandwich, and asked for Joan Theresa. 'Tell her it's Kate,' Kate said, falling back on the new first name culture” (Cross
The horses are kicking, jumping, bucking, frightened by the loud pop of the fireworks and woohing of the crowd. A black broncho had fallen rolling in fear on the hard and cold ground. A beautiful white mustang is rearing up, fighting the restraint of a lead rope clutched tightly in two cowboys’ hands. They try vigorously to escape the hands of the cowboys. A thick cloud of dust surrounds them, flying up in their eyes, blinding them from their vicinity. This was Jack's chance, his chance to win. It is the 4th of July, 1935 and the Wild Horse Race is taking place. Each man wanting the same thing, victory. Being in such depressing times they all need a little boost of spirits in their lives. This was a way of showing that they would not let the times they were in get the best of them. Men from all over the county came to compete in this race. The cash prize was small, but in their position everything counted to them.

In Shakespeare's comedy, The Taming of the Shrew, Shakespeare has a woman as one of the story's main characters. Katherine Minola (Kate) is off the wall, and kinda crazy. Because of her actions, the “male centered world” around her doesn't know what to do with her.
Much responsibility lies with readers, actors, and directors. Remember, “There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.” Katharina and Petruchio are both victims of their social situations, their passions, and their egos, and by Kate’s final speech, it is clear that she doesn't really believe what she's saying – she's just telling Petruchio what he wants to hear. The final speech, then, can be seen as an extension of Kate's newfound ability to "role-play," or act. Katherine’s motivations for giving this speech (fear, exasperation, amusement) and whether or not Kate derives any power in her new relationship with Petruchio
The film Jack and Jill primary ideas throughout the film evolves around the conflicts and differences between both siblings. The conflict between siblings was the primary reason why I did not find this film funny or saw any humor to it. Firstly, the film’s cheap humor is portrayed through Jill where the standards of a female persona were lowered. This is evident as Jill is often needy, helpless, likes to be the center of attention, and has no filter in which she speaks her mind out. I did not agree to this, as this is not an ideal or pleasant image to give to a woman. In addition, she shows her neediness and helplessness as she longs spending sometime with her twin brother; however, she over exaggerates things and wants to do things with her brother that they use to do when they were kids. I personally think that it is ok to hug your siblings and show them some affection however; Jill takes this affection to another level and wants to cuddle in bed with her twin brother like old times. Cuddling while being adults in their forty’s is just a creepy imagine to see and not funny at all. Moreover, Jill has no filter when she talks
Class struggles have appeared in societies of all epochs of history. As humans, we are constantly valuing and arranging ourselves into levels of social status according to power, intelligence, and wealth. Karl Marx’s perspective of the proletariat and bourgeoisie struggle can be used to analyze simple concepts and ideas from unlikely places. These comparisons to Marx’s view brings about creative and profound interpretations. Jack and Jill, a famous children’s nursery rhyme, can be analyzed in this way. Although it is not the epitome of the working class revolution, Jack and Jill can metaphorically represent the relationship between the bourgeoisie and proletariat.
