Juvenile crimes and crime rates have been very popular subject for discussion. Criminal justice researches are currently focusing on the juvenile crimes because it believes that it is the beginning path for adult offenders and juvenile offenders will eventually end up in adult prisons. Most repeat offenders begin their “criminal career’ as juveniles (pg723). Therefore it is very important to provide juvenile with effective prevention programs. Juvenile programs can be very expensive and can cost taxpayers a lot of money, so having effective programs is very important. It is also important to attempt to intervene into youth life prior their commit their first crime. Not many first time offender juveniles end up being locked up in detention centers. Many would argue that juvenile corrections are too harsh and do not teach juveniles and they need rehabilitation instead of being locked up. And that can be true when it comes to some youth, but cannot be applied to all juveniles. Sadly juvenile correction centers has shown that they have very little impact on reducing recidivism and very often juveniles end up reoffending (pg. 761). Many could argue that the environment in detention centers is not appropriate for juvenile and can actually make it worse. There have been arguments about wrongful practices that used at the facilities by the staff members, assaults, discriminations and even suicides. (pg. 754). Some of the program that youth have to participate while detain like boot camps or other scare tactics, has shown through research that have almost no effect on reducing recidivism and possibly can cause harm to juveniles. However even through the facilities have negative aspects, they are necessity in our society. Not only for protective reasons however also to protect youth however only must be used in dangerous situation and very high risk cases. In order for residential facilities to be successful they must change their view. Juvenile facility must be view as prison or jail but as a rehabilitation lock down facilities. If juvenile committed a crime that is serious enough for him to stay in the juvenile facility, that juvenile must go through some sort of therapeutic treatment program. Detention centers have very little impact on crime reduction because while at the center, juveniles are receiving very little services and once they are released they will continue to reoffend. As well as probation, juvenile detention centers need funding in order to reach their goals. And with findings they will need appropriate staff. Often the officers
