In Bill George’s book, Discover Your True North, he describes the “Journey to Authentic Leadership” as three phases; Phase I, Preparing for leadership, Phase II, Leading, and Phase III, Generativity (George, 2015). After forty plus years of leadership positions, twenty-five years in the Marine Corps, eight years as a Manager at a nuclear generating station, and ten years as a Law Enforcement Program Manager, I have now reached George’s Phase III where I am ready to pass on my experiences and knowledge to a younger generation. In about a year, I will close out my career in law enforcement and would like to start my next chapter in life teaching or consulting. I can be considered a slow starter when it comes to education. After high school, I entered college, however, due to immaturity and a lack of focus, I soon found myself on probation. Not knowing where I was heading in life, I enlisted in the Marine Corps and quickly learned the value of an education. I now have a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Criminal Justice, and a Master of Science in Criminal Justice. Additionally, I have attended numerous military professional schools, such as the U.S. Army’s Advanced Military Police Officer Course, the U.S, Marine Corps Command and Staff College, and the FBI National Academy. Throughout my career and even today, I have learned that education is continuous no matter the age of the individual. My goal and motivation for seeking a Doctorate in Business Administration are twofold. One, to broaden my education and experience. I have learned no matter what position one holds, to be successful, he or she must understand sound business principles. Due to the reasonable cost of tuition, I will be debt free when I decide to retire from my current job, and I will be able to concentrate on my new endeavors totally. As an instructor or a consultant, I will not encounter any pressures in paying back student loans or any other debts from my educational pursuits. Another benefit that Apollos University provides is that the courses are online. This style of education is important to me because time management in my career is significant. Living in Southern California, it is very difficult to travel back and forth to work with all the traffic.
