The journey through childhood is filled with many experiences. Children often fantasize about their own eventual journey through adulthood; with stars in their eyes, they contemplate the freedom and wonder that greatly differs from their current experience. Some experiences force growth, robbing the childhood experience. Naïve childhood bubbles often burst as they are abruptly hurled head-first into adulthood. Life experience provides the ability to learn and grow or become sour and stubborn. What is the true definition of being an adult? When faced with difficult experiences, we can square our shoulders and face the challenge, or point fingers and blame place. Life can bring many unexpected challenges. We cannot know the bitter without the sweet. Through the darkest times in my own life, without a deep understanding of who I am and to whom I belong, I would not have the foresight and understanding of the importance of bitter experiences. Difficult times afford us with lessons to line our pockets. If we are going to pay for life experience, we had better keep the receipt. Meaning can be found in making sure that bitter experiences ensure the absence of a repeat offense. Learning and growth from our own mistakes provides wisdom. My thoughts turn to my wise grandpa. Grandpa was filled with the best ways to get things done, in addition to sure-fire ways to prevent reaching your goals; he was filled with mature wisdom. In hindsight, it is clear that Grandpa achieved incredible wisdom through countless attempts at life through trial and error; being a frugal man, he recognized the importance of not paying for something more than once.
