Journey of The Soul Have you ever considered what the crucial answer to your dream is? The truth is, that everyone’s dream is different, but everyone must still face difficult hardships to fulfill that dream. You must go through the most challenging things just to achieve your dream. This idea is depicted by Santiago, a shepherd, and a boy who has to face a lot of difficulties to achieve his Personal Legend. In the novel, The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho, Santiago learns, “Remember where your heart is, there you will find your treasure.” First, Santiago recognizes where his heart lies. Next, Santiago discovers his true treasure. Last, Santiago finds an unexpected twist at the grand finale. To begin, Santiago realizes where his heart lies. For example, when Santiago was arguing with his father about what he wants to be, he tells his father bluntly that he will become a shepherd. “‘But I’d like to see the castles in the towns where they live,’ the boy explained. ‘Those people, when they see our land, say that they would like to live here forever,’ his father continued. ‘Well I’d like to see their land, and see how they live,’ said his son. ‘The people who come here have a lot of money to spend, so they can afford to travel,’ his father said. ‘Amongst us, the only ones who travel are shepherds.’ ‘Well, then I’ll be a shepherd!’” (11).
