The story “The Man with The Heart in The Highlands” written by William Saroyan is a story about a boy, a musician, and the boy’s father. The boy was named Johnny and he acts as the narrator recalling his time he was little. Johnny starts to show recognized traits such as curiosity, caution, nervous, honesty, and obedient all through the story. When his father came out he asked him “Can’t a fellow try to find out something from a traveler once an a while” (Saroyan 4)? While curious about the man we can see that Johnny is kept in his home, which acts like a limit, meaning he has a limited knowledge or idea about his surroundings. MacGregor “Can you play Drink to Me Only with Thine Eyes? I said to the old man. I sure would like to hear you play that song on the bugle. That song is my favorite. I guess I like that song better than any song in the world” (Saroyan 5). Johnny thought the elderly man would not play if he constantly interrogate him if he can and his life is not luxuries since he grew up in an unfortunate rural part of town. After waiting and Mr. MacGregor Johnny's father begins to rephrase the question in the wake of perceiving or noticing how Johnny was silent about the matter, he asked “How about a little music? Said my father. I think the boy would be delighted” (Saroyan 11). It is here when the experienced elder decided to play a tune on his bugle. The bugle music attracts neighbors to come to the house.
