Imagine being stuck in a chair for five hours while someone transformed your face into some monster. John Matuszak had to tackle that challenge everyday of his acting job in The Goonies. John’s legacy still lives on for a few decades after his death in the role of Sloth. For him, it was nothing compared to his NFL career. John was an amazing defensive end, mostly for the Oakland Raiders. The phrase Renaissance man truly defines John Matuszak. John Matuszak was a legend in the 1980s, but we have to go back to his childhood to see how he became the tough guy everyone loved. His sister, Dawn, also had the disease but she was the lucky one and survived. Down the road when John was ten, he and his family moved to Oak Creek, WI. While John was living in Oak Creek, his classmates at the time taunted him, telling him he was a gawky beanpole(glossary). This drove him insane for a very long time, but didn’t put an end to his success. The statements John’s classmates spoke to him pushed him to be a strong young man. Later in his life, this inspired him to do great things and achieve his goals. In the following years, football had been a big part in John’s life.
