The declaration of independence adopted on July 4, 1776 draws influence heavily from the philosophy of John Locke. Who wrote his second Treatise On Government in 1690 stating that humans by nature are free, equal, and independent. Our saying that all people deserve the right of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness is a revision of Locke's philosophy. Which was originally just life, liberty, and property. Our founding fathers believed in this philosophy and made it the foundation of our country's beliefs. This had a domino effect on France who saw value of this philosophy in government and created their own version of the declaration of independence.
