John Locke was born on August 29, 1632. He was born in a quaint village, called Wrington, in the county of Somerset, to two Puritan parents. His father was a captain in the English Civil War, and was a country lawyer. With his father being so involved with the English government, Locke was blessed to receive the best education out there. John was enrolled at Westminster School in 1647. The school was located in London. John was honored with the title of King’s Scholar. This title was only awarded to selected boys, and allowed a straight shot for John to attend Christ Church, Oxford in 1652. Christ Church was one of Oxford’s most respected schools. At Christ Church, Locke studied metaphysics, logic, and classical languages. He graduated in 1656, but could not stay away for long. He returned to the school, in 1658, for a Master of Arts, which later led to him taking on tutorial work at Christ Church.
