A phenomenon happened in the sixties that are still leaving people to this day scratching their heads. It was an invasion that took the world by storm. I’m not talking about the war in Vietnam, but rather an invasion onto the music scene; four regular guys with not so regular dreams, made girls frenzied and boys jealous. The music was innovative and changed a nation’s thoughts on innocence, drugs, war and peace. They were the Beatles. It all started in 1956 with a small “skiffle band” called the Quarrymen, named after the high school in which John Lennon attended, Quarry Bank High. The group consisted of John Lennon himself and his best friend at the time, Stu Sutcliff, who, at the time, could not play a musical instrument, but looked cool holding a guitar. The boys were known as rebels and often got enjoyment out of making cruel jokes. Lennon once said,” Other boy’s parents hated me. Most of my teachers hated me”. One day, while riding a bus, John met a fourteen year old boy, who had a sort of “Teddy boy” look to him. He heard him playing guitar and quickly introduced himself. The label displayed the group’s name as the “Beat Brothers”. The song was “My Bonnie”. When the recording was released, a teenager from Liverpool requested the song from then record store owner, Brian Epstein. The teen referred to the group as the Beatles. Curious and in search of the sound, Epstein made it a mission to find the group. When he found them, the group was performing at the Cavern Club, a dark, smelly bar where the patrons were not much better. He introduced the group to Richard (Ringo Starr) Starkey from a group called Rory and the Hurricanes. From this point, Brian Epstein declared himself manager of the Beatles.
