Prior to the battle at Saratoga the British and Americans were fighting for Philadelphia because that’s where all the loyalists were living, but during the Saratoga fight the British General John Burgoyne convinces London’s high commander to allow him to pursue a complex route, his plan was to lead an army down a route of lakes from Canada to Albany to meet up with one other of the British generals Howe, they planned to meet up in New York and surround the colonies.
