Human beings are capable of many different things, some being extremely amazing, while others are extremely devastating. People such as police officers are ideal examples of people who do astonishing actions. While Adolf Hitler is a good example of a human being that was capable of creating devastating situations. Another gentleman who had destructive habits was Jeffrey Dahmer. Dahmer was a popular American serial killer because of his background, the nature of his crimes, and his demise. A major contribution to Jeffrey Dahmer’s life was his background. Jeffrey Dahmer was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on May 21, 1960, to Lionel and Joyce Dahmer. Dahmer’s murders ended July 22, 1991 when he was arrested. The police were led to Jeffrey’s apartment when they were investigating a claim from Tracy Edwards. Two police officers found Tracy Edwards walking the streets with handcuffs dangling from his wrist, he told them that a strange man drugged and restrained him. The police officers investigated his allegations and they were led to Dahmer’s apartment. Edwards told the police that the knife he was threatened with was in Dahmer’s bedroom and when they went in to confirm what he had told them they noticed Polaroids of dismembered bodies lying around. The officers restrained him and they investigated further they uncovered four heads, preserved skulls, genitalia, and a substantial gallery of Polaroid photographs of his victims(Biography.com). Police officers also found evidence that he was consuming parts of his victims. Jeffrey Dahmer’s trial began January 1992. Jeffrey’s victims were black there were a large amount of precautions taken because of racial tensions. At the beginning of the trial Jeffery pleaded not guilty in spite of him confessing to the killings during interrogation. Later in the trial he changed his plea to guilty by means of insanity which the defense, then shared gruesome details about the killings to prove only someone insane would do such horrific things. The jury thought that he was fully aware that his acts were evil and he chose to commit them anyway. On February 15, 1992 after a ten-hour deliberation they found Jeffrey Dahmer guilty but sane to all counts(Biography.com). He was sentenced to fifteen consecutive life terms with a sixteenth put on in May. Jeffrey Dahmer adjusted well to the prison life and he found religion in books and photos sent by his father(Biography.com).
