James Madison is known for being the “Father of the Constitution” because he drafted U.S. Constitution and sponsored the Bill of Rights. Madison established the Democratic-Republican party with Thomas Jefferson, who was president at the time and joined the Virginia militia.. James then became the president and served two terms with first lady Dolley Madison and was the last founding father to serve as president. James Madison accomplished all of this and more before dying on June 28, 1836 at the Montpelier estate in Orange County, VIrginia.

Madison was born on March 16, 1751, in Port Conway, Virginia and grew up in Orange County, Virginia. James was raised on his family plantation that was more than 3000 acres of land and owned dozens of slaves. Once James turned 18, he attended school at the College of New Jersey, which is now known as Princeton. He joined the Virginia Militia as a colonel in 1775. Madison gave up on being a colonel and decided to leave his military life to become a politician. Madison had found out that he was a better writer than a fighter. After finding this out, he used his talents and represented Orange County, at the Virginia Convention, in 1776 to organise a new government.
During this time james met Thomas Jefferson, the author of the Declaration of Independence and our third President. James and Thomas shortly becomes friends and later established the Democratic-Republican party together. As his time as a politician, Madison used his talents to fight for religious freedom because he thought it was a right from the day you were born.
