Jamaica is a wonderful place to visit and is popular for tourism. It is an island located in the Caribbean within the tropics. Jamaica is known for its food, art, music (dancehall and reggae). Many people are fascinated by Bob Marley because of his songwriting, musician, and a guitarist, which eventually achieved international fame and acclaim.
My experience on the small island was very interesting. I have learnt so much in the two weeks while I was there. The culture is very warm and welcoming as the natives are friendly. They took the time out to teach me quite a few things. I learnt some of their dance moves, music and their second language (patios). Jamaica has a strong culture because they were once ruled by the British Colony.
I was eager to try their food. The national dish was the first on my agenda which is ackee and saltfish. The ackee is a fruit first brought to the Caribbean by the West Africans by the slaves. Their paintings, sculptures and potteries are among the best in the Caribbean. They represent countries like, Europe, Africa, and America. Driving in the country area, along the roadside are where most of their arts are accessible. It’s such an amazing view to see while driving. The sculptures are very unique and well crafted.
In Jamaica, the music is entertaining. I didn’t understand half of what they were singing but the rhythm gives you a good vibe. It makes you want to dance. The songs often speak to their history, poverty, love, romance, and sex. Entertainers simply sing about day to day happenings in their everyday lives, country, and society. Their music is a way of communication with each other and was employed by the slaves during the rebellion.
