Jack London: A Man For The People’s Rights

Jack London was a man who led the new world of fiction writing, and was a supporter of socialism. He was born with the name “John Griffith Chaney”, later taking the name Jack London. Born on January 12, 1876, in San Francisco, California, he was born to a single mother, never knowing his biological father. A strong socialist reformer and advocate for worker’s rights. A great writer and reformer, the following is the life, goals, and the accomplishments of Jack London. His mother married John London, who continuously moved the family around the Bay Area, then settling down in Oakland. As a working-class family, Jack worked to support his family, in the meanwhile, he also read very much, and learned much himself. After a long time at sea, and experiencing a typhoon which almost killed him, he returned home, and after telling his mother of the experience, she convinced him to tell his story from at sea. He won the writing contest, winning the 25 dollar prize, and beating out college students with only his 8th grade knowledge. This was …show more content…

Much of his work is inspired by real life stories of his, especially his travels and the people he had met. Many of his encounters and his upbringings are what led him to support his beliefs on worker’s rights and socialism. Not only having been in poverty, also having met many also in poverty. His dedication to his writing was also noticeable in his dedication to his beliefs. Many of his writings were very much influenced by these beliefs, and were his way to spread those beliefs. He was a reformer without having to go lead a revolution, protest, or many such acts. He led his own reforms by his writings, inspiring many through his work and introducing many to his beliefs through his many novels, articles, and other forms of literature he had written.
