When looking at the idea of Aristotle and his reading, “The Proper Function of Man and It’s Relation to the Good Life”, it is not hard to look at his idea and compare it to the ancient world views. Aristotle believes in the pursuit of happiness, which will always be with you throughout life and will consist of one of three types of life that will make the “masses” very happy. He argues about the different ways people work towards obtaining a life full of happiness, making this their number one goal towards the end of their life, to look back at their life and saying they lived a life full of happiness. To maintain a happy life, there are different types of lives that each human must interpret, according to Aristotle. He states, “…There are basically three types of life---the sensual life, the political life, and the speculative life.” (Aristotle 354). These three types of life are considered to obtain the highest form of happiness and goodness, overall sticking with you for the rest of your life. The masses believed that life is full of pleasure and slavish, where Aristotle states that the masses were “preferring the life of brute beasts”. (Aristotle 354). This means that the goal for the “masses” is to be like these “brute beasts” and have a life just like theirs.
